Club Profile

OVERVIEW
The Australia Malaysia Performing Arts Club (AMPAC) is an amateur association of students who share an interest in performing and performing arts. Currently, the members are mostly Malaysian students studying in Brisbane, Australia. The club is operated as a non-profit organisation, relying mainly on members chipping in on funds and participating in fundraising events.


HISTORY
In the year 2007, a group of Malaysian students got together to perform at various events in and around Brisbane. What was firstly intended as a social activity became something more when the group started to perform to help promote Malaysia. The year 2007 marks the fiftieth anniversary of Malaysian independence and it is also a Visit Malaysia year. Some of the events that the group has performed at are EKKA, Merdeka Gala Dinner and World Festival.


OBJECTIVES
The club is formed with several objectives in mind. First and foremost, it is to organise the performers of Malaysian performing arts. The club aims to bring together talented individuals and to capitalise on their talents to put forth the best of Malaysian performing arts to the community in Brisbane and Australia. The club also hopes to be able to promote and introduce Malaysia to the Australian community. Besides that, the club encourages the personal development of members in terms of acquiring new skills, leadership and teamwork.


MEMBERSHIP
Currently, most of the club’s members are Malaysian students from The University of Queensland (UQ), Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and Griffith University (Griffith). The membership for the club is free. Everyone regardless of nationality is welcomed.


ACTIVITIES
The club actively seeks out opportunities to perform. The club collaborates with organisations such as the UQ Malaysian Students Association, QUT Malaysian Students Association and Malaysian Students Council (MASCA) Queensland. Practice sessions are held each week on Sunday 9.00 am to 12.00pm at a dance studio in QUT Kelvin Grove campus.
